This Is How a Bra Should Fit: Visual Checklist

This Is How a Bra Should Fit: Visual Checklist

Finding Your Perfect Fit

Choosing the right bra might seem simple, but the truth is most women are wearing the wrong size. A poorly fitted bra doesn’t just cause discomfort or lower your confidence; it can also cause physical harm like back pain, poor posture and even difficulty breathing.

Whether you’ve worn bras for years or are just starting to figure it out, if you’re looking for an easy and friendly checklist to the perfect fit then this MISHQ guide is for you.

The Band

The band is the foundation that helps hold up your structure.

  • It should lie flat across your back, not riding up.
  • It should feel snug around your ribcage. Firm enough to offer support but never so tight that it leaves marks.
  • You should be able to slide two fingers comfortably under it.
  • It should sit comfortably on the loosest hook when new.

The Cups

The cups should fully encase your breasts— no spillage or gaping.

  • If there seems to be spillage, try a larger cup.
  • If there is gaping or wrinkling, go smaller.
  • The fabric should lie flat against your skin, creating a seamless silhouette under your clothes.

The Straps

They provide lift, not carry the full load.

  • They must sit in place without slipping or digging into your shoulders.
  • The majority of the support comes from the band, not the straps.
  • Adjust for individual comfort and lift till you find the perfect fit.

The Bridge

The panel between the cups must lay flat against your skin.

  • If it is floating it usually indicates cups that are too small.

The Underwire

A proper fitting wire should feel like a hug not a pinch.

  • When right, you shouldn’t be able to notice the underwire at all.
  • It should trace neatly against the base of your breasts.
  • It shouldn’t dig or poke at the tissue or under arms.

Common Bra Fit Problems and Easy Fixes

Band

Problem: The band moves up your back through the day

Fix: Try a smaller band size with more support

Straps

Problem: The straps dig into your shoulder causing pain.

Fix: Loosen your straps or choose a bra with wider straps for better weight distribution

Cups

Problem: Spillage at the top or sides

Fix: Go up a cup size or two. If that doesn’t help try a full coverage bra.

Problem: Gaping and wrinkling of the breasts

Fix: Try a smaller cup size, or change bra styles to suit your needs better.

Underwire

Problem: The wire pokes into your skin or breast tissue

Fix: Try a larger cup size or switch to a wireless, cotton lined bra for gentle support.

Checklist Overview

  • Band stays level and firm
  • Cups are smooth and fully filled
